Is Kanakapura Road an Urban or Rural Area?

Kanakapura Road’s Bengaluru stretch is urban, while the longer route passes through growing outskirts and rural areas. Places such as Konanakunte, Doddakallasandra, Vajrahalli and Thalaghattapura form part of the built-up South Bengaluru corridor. They have homes, shops and Green Line metro stations. The road name covers several places, so one label cannot describe its full length.
Kanakapura Road in Bengaluru is also different from Kanakapura town. The town has its own City Municipal Council, making it a separate urban centre. On Bengaluru’s side, the 6.29 km metro extension from Yelachenahalli to Silk Institute opened in January 2021, adding five stations along the corridor. This helps explain why the city stretch is an established residential address.
